English Teacher in Indonesia: Tips for a Vacation in Bandung

If you are currently working in Indonesia, or you are just interested in applying for a job here, I would highly suggest a placement around Jakarta. As it is the capital city in Indonesia, it is very easy to travel anywhere from Jakarta. One of the best destinations to go to from Jakarta is Bandung, as it is one of the best destinations for your holiday. Bandung is indeed one of the best holiday destinations in West Java.

This city is never empty and always full of visitors who want to enjoy the comfortable atmosphere of Bandung. It is such a beloved destination especially for people in Jakarta as it is located near Jakarta. Most of those who come to Bandung want to enjoy a variety of interesting and fun tourist attractions in Bandung and they really have come to the perfect place.

We have some tips and information that you need to know in order to have a nice and successful trip to Bandung. These tips are very useful during your trip to Bandung, and they are:

  1. Avoid holiday season

First thing first, you might want to avoid the holiday season. Just like any other destinations, Bandung can get really crowded during holiday seasons. The traffic there could be very congested too, especially if you are traveling from Jakarta since many people from Jakarta love to go to Bandung. Besides that, it might also be tricky to find good accommodation unless you have booked them long before the actual trip. However, if you do want to visit during the holiday season, there are still things you can do to avoid all those disadvantages such as taking the train to avoid traffic jams or booking your accommodation in advance.

  2. Enter from another Toll gate

The next tip to have a nice vacation in Bandung is to use another toll gate when you are on your way there. This is of course if you travel by car, either rental car, travel car or your personal car. Most people usually take the exit on Pasteur Toll Gate as it is one of the main entrances to Bandung. During the holiday season, it can get pretty crowded. Therefore, you might want to look up another toll gate and try going through there instead.

There are many toll gates which can take you to Bandung, such as the Cileunyi toll gate, Kopo toll gate, Pasir Koja toll gate or Buah Batu toll gate. You can choose either one of those toll gates if the Pasteur toll gate is very crowded.

  1. Use the Train

As mentioned previously, the train is a great alternative for transport if you do not like the potential of being trapped in a traffic jam. You can find many trains with the route to Bandung and it is free of traffic jams. Moreover, you can also relax and enjoy the ride while enjoying the view outside your window. It is also affordable. One thing to keep in mind is to buy your ticket some time before the trip to be prepared.

  2. Choose your accommodation wisely

Be smart and wise when you choose your accommodation. Make sure that this is perfectly suited for your itinerary, meaning that it should be located near to the places you want and need to visit. Do not look for accommodation that is too far from the places you want to visit, regardless of the offer or the view. This will just cost you more hours to be on the road. Moreover, that will also increase your expenses. Another tip is to find affordable accommodations but still in great quality. Being a beloved holiday destination, Bandung has many accommodations from hotels to guesthouses. You will surely be able to find great ones which are also affordable.

  3. Enjoy the traditional foods

Bandung has a great variety of cuisine which will definitely satisfy your taste buds. Bandung is located in West Java island and the traditional cuisine of the island is absolutely delicious. The price point in Bandung is also quite lower than in Jakarta. With the price and variety of cuisine, Bandung is definitely worthy to be called a paradise of delicacy. Many people often go to Bandung just for the food, calling it a culinary trip. Their street foods are just as tasty as those you get in restaurants and cafes, if not better.

  1. Creating your itinerary

Now that you have finished preparing almost everything, it is time to create an itinerary. This is basically when you get to decide where you want to go, when you want to go and how you want to get there.

Bandung has many interesting holiday destinations, so it's best to narrow them down to just a number of places which you really want to go to. If you live in Jakarta, traveling to Bandung is not that hard, so you do not need to worry about not being able to visit all the places you want to visit as you will definitely have many more chances to visit. You can visit some places with natural nuances in Bandung, or you can also go horse riding. If you like both exercising and playing, then you can visit the bowling alleys in Bandung.

How to get there? Well, there are many public transportation options in Bandung if you do not have or did not bring your personal vehicle. You can take the bus, the taxis or even the rickshaws (‘bajaj’ in Indonesian). You can also rent a car either from Jakarta or when you arrive in Bandung.
