An abundance of Islands!

Indonesia is one of the countries with the highest number of islands which is why the Indonesian archipelago is one of the biggest archipelagos in the whole world. There are so many islands that no one knows exactly how many there are. Some say 17,000 and some 18,000 but the common thing is that it is a huge number. Kalimantan, Sumatra and Papua are the big islands to name a few in Indonesia. These are not only one of the biggest in the country but also in the world. If you work as an ESL teacher here, you will have the amazing chance to visit these beautiful islands and explore them. Have your own little adventure and enjoy your time there.

One of the oldest in the world

Indonesia is a country that is known to be very rich in various things, from the culture, the cuisine, the islands, the traditions, the heritage and also the history. This is because it has a very long standing history due to being one of the 100 oldest countries in the world. The proof of this long history and rich culture can be seen in the 13 heritage sites from Indonesia which are recorded as global heritage by UNESCO.

Highly diverse

Still in relation to the richness of Indonesia, it is also very diverse in local languages and cuisine. Due to its high number of islands, Indonesia is also the country with the most tribes in the world. In Indonesia, there are approximately more than 740 ethnicities making the country extremely diverse. Each of these tribes, in each island or region, all has a number of things that are uniquely theirs such as their own local language and traditional cuisine. Being such a diverse country, Indonesia proves to be one of the best destinations for ESL teachers as it can give you the wonderful chance to explore all the places here, learning the local languages, trying the authentic Indonesian cuisine and many more.

Unity in diversity

Albeit being very diverse, Indonesia is a united country. Indonesian people have long realized the great diversity among them and understood that this diversity along with the differences in it can be a source for conflict. Therefore, we came up with a slogan for every Indonesian and that is ‘Bhinneka Tunggal Ika’ which is made from Old Javanese, one of the many local languages in Indonesia. This slogan means ‘Unity in Diversity’. This is something that Indonesians live by in order to keep the peace because at the end of the day, no matter how different each and every one is, Indonesian people are all one and united.

Natural resources

Not only does it have many islands, many local languages, many tribes and many traditional cuisines, Indonesia also has many natural resources like sea, mines, land and many more. It is a country for all of you nature lovers out there. Indonesia is labeled as a ‘megadiverse’ country which means that it has a lot of nature species and many of them are only found in the country. This is proven by the great variety of flora and fauna species in Indonesia which make up a considerable big part of the world’s species. For example, the corpse flower or scientifically named the ‘Rafflesia Arnoldi’ flower is a notable species which only grows in Indonesia or Sumatra Island to be specific. Another example can be found in the country’s bird species which makes up about 17% of the world’s bird species.
